Love Your Enemies

During the George Floyd riots, someone online accused me of killing Martin Luther King Jr. just because I’m white. It shocked, but mostly saddened me.

The amount of anger being spewed in the world is mind boggling. It’s coming from all sides.

In Los Angeles this month, angry protesters hurled bricks off of overpasses at police cars. Some would say they did it out of love for immigrants who are being sent back to their countries.

Love now manifests as rock throwing?

Jesus told us to love our enemies, and unless you’re sinless … don’t throw stones at them.

Scripture warned us this day was coming.

In the last days there will be very difficult times. For people will … be unloving….and hate what is good.” ‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭3‬.

Perhaps one reason people hate what is good is because their definition of good differs from God’s.

Is it good to tell a female athlete she has to compete against a male? Or worse, undress in front of him in a locker room?

Is it good to give free handouts to those who can work, but are unwilling to?

Is it good, according to God, to kill a baby because it’s not wanted?

As Christ followers, we can speak the truth in love when we see evil. Paul told the church, “Take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness; instead, expose them.” Ephesians‬ ‭5‬:‭11‬ ‭

Don’t be silent when you see evil, just don’t hate those who are committing it. Pray for them, love them, knowing they will one day have to give an account for their actions.

Woe (judgment is coming) to those who call evil good, and good evil” Isaiah 5:20 AMP

Jesus hated evil and He called it out. He overturned tables when He saw His Father’s house being commercialized. However, He didn’t hit anyone over the head with those tables. Jesus was angry at evil, but He never sinned.

I hold no ill feelings towards the man who accused me of killing MLK Jr. I love him, hurt for him, and have often prayed for him.

Jesus wasn’t a rock thrower. He was a love dispenser.

I want to be more like Jesus!

“But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,” Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭44‬ ‭

Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.” Romans‬ ‭12‬:‭9‬ ‭
