My Deliverer

For 25 years I drove a UPS truck. That wasn’t my career plan. It was God’s plan. I joke that He gave me a “deliverance” ministry.

Every Christmas season, UPS would give drivers “runners” to dash packages to the houses while we stayed in the truck sorting. One Christmas, my runner was a young man who had just gotten out of jail. We talked a lot about Jesus those two weeks working together.

After Christmas we met weekly for Bible study. Soon, he invited four of his buddies to our home to learn about Jesus. Three gave their lives to Christ and were baptized!

One doesn’t have to go to Bible college to be an effective minister for God. I sure didn’t. Scripture records that the religious leaders “were amazed when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, for they could see that they were ordinary men with no special training in the Scriptures. They also recognized them as men who had been with Jesus.” Acts 4:13

All those years at UPS, I too was an ordinary guy who had been with Jesus. God blessed me with countless opportunities to share His love with people on my route. Many found Christ as a result. UPS paid my salary but I was really working for God.

Yes, Father is in the delivery business! To deliver means “to transport something to its proper place.” That’s what God does. He picks us up from a place of bondage and delivers us to where we belong — the land of the free! Free in Christ! Free indeed!

I’ve seen God deliver people from addiction, fear, depression, and so much more! Jesus delivers us from death to life; from darkness to light; and from weakness to strength! His name alone has the power to break every stronghold!

That’s the God I know!

He is Jesus! Satan crusher! Life transformer!
