This week marks 47 years of marriage for Marci and I. We know God’s unending love is the reason our love has endured so long.
For 30 of those years we were blessed to serve God as worship leaders in various churches.
I’m thankful for those who inspire and encourage us to praise the Lord. God, however, is not looking for worship leaders as much as He is seeking true worshippers. (See John 4:23,24) Our praise songs are not what He desires most.
He wants our hearts.
Although most people will never be worship leaders, all believers have been chosen by God to encourage and inspire others to worship Him. It happens when we share how wonderful His love is, and testify to the great things He has done in our lives.
“But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light” 1 Peter 2:9
When the apostle Peter says, “You are a royal priesthood,” he’s not addressing a group of clerics in robes. He’s writing to ordinary people like you and me—truck drivers, housewives, construction workers, students.
That’s right. All God’s kids are royal priests. (And if you like wearing a robe, that’s cool.)
Marci and I thank God for blessing us with 47 wonderful years together. Though we no longer formally lead worship in a church, we will never stop sharing how awesome God is. We can’t help it!
Jesus was nailed to a cross so we could be forgiven of every sin. He disarmed the devil and his demons so we could be free from their attacks. He gave us His Holy Spirit to guide us and fill us with indescribable joy. God has empowered us to love like He does. I could go on and on!
Yep, I’d say He’s worth telling others about.
One last thing. It won’t be long until Jesus, our bridegroom, returns to take us to heaven to be with Him forever. When we arrive it will be time to celebrate as we sing of His goodness and rejoice in His presence.
I doubt very much we will need a worship leader to inspire us!

Thanks Walt. Once again congratulations on the 47 years with Marcy. Most people will never know just a few years of the awe inspired love you both have been blessed with for 47. Thanks for being an inspiration, and thanks for being so welcoming to me and my son. Please pray for my path ahead, and my relationship. Also that if my significant other cannot join me in my faith, that I have the strength to remove myself and one day be with someone who is equally yoked.
