Never Alone

When our two girls were little, bedtime always included playing a recording of lullabies to help them sleep.

One of our favorite songs was “Don’t be Afraid of the Dark”—written by our dear friend Frank Hernandez. The lyrics say—“Don’t be afraid of the dark. Remember you’re never alone. The Lord will surround you with angels of light. His love will be with you all day and all night.”

Fear of the dark is not just something kids deal with. Actually, it’s not really the dark that scares us—it’s what might be hiding in the dark that’s spooky.

“You came near when I called you, and you said, “Do not fear.” Lamentations 3:57

When our daughters would call out our names in the night, we’d sometimes turn on a light so they wouldn’t be afraid. What they really wanted was for us to lay beside them in bed. More than light, they needed the presence of the ones they knew deeply loved them.

Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me.” Psalms‬ ‭23‬:‭4‬

We are never alone. Jesus said, “I will never leave you.” Never. He is always present, not just because He doesn’t want us to fear, but because He loves us so much and just wants to be with us.

“Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” Luke 12:7

Sure, there are times when God seems distant. We may feel we are alone, but that’s the devil and our feelings lying to us.

The truth is, “Where can I go from Your Spirit? Where can I flee from Your presence? If I go up to the heavens, You are there; if I make my bed in the depths, You are there.” Psalms‬ ‭139‬:‭7‬-8

Father God will never leave His kids because He’s crazy about us!

Sleep on that!

When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.” Proverbs‬ ‭3‬:‭24‬ ‭

“For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty Savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With His love, He will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.” Zephaniah‬ ‭3‬:‭17‬ ‭
