No Fear of Death

My father died in my presence from a massive heart attack when he was only 55. I was 16 and it was traumatizing to witness.

Consequently, I had a fear of death for many years. It didn’t help that before dad’s death I was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect that would eventually require me getting a pacemaker in my thirties.

Satan loves to cripple us with the fear of death. It may be an unconscious fear for most, but it’s still there, especially as we get older.

I laid in the hospital recovering from heart problems when a biker dude walked into my room to visit his uncle who was in the bed next to me. Afterwards he came over to my bed and said something I will never forget. “The devil can’t take you out one day early!”

Those words have been a comfort ever since. God sent that stranger to my bedside just when I needed it.

In Revelation chapter 12, John lists three things we need to overcome Satan. The blood of Jesus, the word of our testimony, and not loving this life so much that we fear death.

The blood of Jesus is the life of Jesus. That life is inside me, empowering me to do the impossible! I now have the same authority over demonic attacks that Jesus did. That’s right, I’m no longer a mere mortal. Back off Satan!

The word of my testimony is my story of how Christ has transformed me. One can argue with my theology but they can’t argue with my story. Jesus has given me a joy and peace the world can’t comprehend. When the devil accuses me of sin, I agree with him. He forgot that God has rewritten my story and I’m not who I used to be. I am dearly loved, forgiven of every sin because of Jesus.

Last but not least, I’m not afraid to die. Death no longer has a hold on me because heaven awaits me. When I surrendered to Jesus, I died on the cross with Him. You can’t kill a dead man!

If you ever fear death, remember—your days are numbered by the Lord, so the devil can’t take you out one day early. And if Christ rose from the dead, and He is your life, you will never really die. You will just pass from this life to the next—and the next life is going to be infinitely better!

Thank You Jesus!

“Everyone who lives and believes in me will never die.” John 11:26

For only as a human being could he (Jesus) die, and only by dying could he break the power of the devil, who had the power of death. Only in this way could he set free all who have lived their lives as slaves to the fear of dying.” Hebrews‬ ‭2‬:‭14‬-‭15‬ ‭
