The Only “Like” That Matters

I got teary eyed reading a text from my grandson Boone. He was responding to a recent blogpost of mine.

“Papa, I’m really happy to see you still writing these. It means more than you probably realize. I love reading every word. You’re such a beautiful human being, and somehow an even better friend, and I feel so grateful that I get to have you in my life. Watching God work through you is honestly one of the coolest things ever. It’s like… holy magic, but with your handwriting. Please never stop.”

After wiping the tears, I thanked the Lord for my grandson’s text.

Don’t we all appreciate when someone takes the time to tell us they love something about us?

Recently, I’ve had some mean and hateful things said to me in response to my blog. I have fought the temptation to be offended, as well as to go radio silent as the world self destructs from rejecting Christ.

It’s easy to fall into the trap of wanting others to like us. The fear of man is a powerful force. Proverbs 29:25 tells us, “It is dangerous to be concerned with what others think of you.”

Whenever we stand up for righteousness and speak truth in a world of lies, we are going to stir up anger in some. Those who have said hateful things to me are not going to silence me. It’s time we unashamedly proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ. He is our only hope, and He warned us we would be hated for our allegiance to Him and His ways.

Thank you Boone and all of you who send encouraging comments to my blogposts. It means more than you know. I collect EVERY comment in a special place and re-read them when I need encouragement. I’ve been reading them a lot lately!

I asked my heavenly Father the other day if He liked what I’ve been writing. When He said, “Yes”, I realized…

His “like” is the only one that really matters.

Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.” Galatians‬ ‭1‬:‭10‬ ‭

  2. Yes, and Amen! God did not call us to shrink back, he called us to be salt and light to this world. The flesh is with us until the day we step into the presence of our Lord and Savior. We must die to the flesh every day. Our Spirit will irritate other people’s demons and we live by the Spirit and the rest of the world is under the control of the evil one. After wiping my tears from reading what your grandson said, I confirm the Holy Spirits call to you, He has annointed you to shine brightly and bring glory to the Lord. Carry on soldier.

  3. Praise the Lord for Boone! I know you know you are so blessed to have him.

I am frankly ticked at your hateful critics, though I know who is really behind it. You must really be hitting a nerve with your godliness, Walt!

Please don’t ever quit! I love your writing. And I will pray for those people, that the Lord would soften their hearts and make them teachable. And for you, that you would be comforted and encouraged. Be sure and hug that chick you hang with!❤️

    1. Thank you Patti for the encouragement and the prayers for my critics. I am learning to be unoffendable. I’ve been forgiven so much to hold hurt feelings towards others.
