No Greater Love

“Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.” Psalm 116:15

Charlie Kirk and his wife knew he might die for his faith in Christ. Their love for God and people overcame their fear of death.

Charlie was a unique person when it came to conversation. Unlike so many today, he showed respect to those who disagreed with him. He never tried to humiliate anyone, no matter how foolish they sounded.

Charlie loved his enemies, and his kindness often softened their hearts and turned them into friends. He knew the decay of society was not due to politics as much as it was the spiritual state of man’s heart. God’s word tells us our hearts are “desperately wicked”. Jeremiah 17:9

Charlie lovingly contended that God’s ways were the best for society to flourish, and he encouraged people to repent and make Christ Lord of their lives. This angered Charlie’s enemies, so instead of respectfully conversing with him, they cowardly killed him in front of 3000 college students, many of who loved him. Charlie truly gave up his life for his friends.

“There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” John 15:13

Charlie counted the cost of speaking the truth in love, and knew if he lost his life in this world, he would find it in the next. Everyone wants to go to heaven but nobody wants to die. Charlie didn’t fear death for he was confident Christ had conquered it, and so would he.

Charlie was not killed for his political views, but because he boldly proclaimed Jesus Christ as the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

I will miss Charlie Kirk. He once said, “When people stop talking to each other they lose their humanity and violence occurs.” His death proved again, he was right.

Thankfully, Charlie’s voice for truth and the call to follow Christ will not be silenced by an assassin’s bullet. What the enemy intended for evil, God will use for good. Just as the death of Christ was a seed that had to die and be buried before it could multiply, so will Charlie’s voice be multiplied in the lives of the millions of college students who have heard and believed the wisdom in his words.

May we all learn from Charlie as we have from Jesus, that to love someone is to tell them the truth with kindness and respect, even if it costs us our life.

“You will be hated by everyone because of me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.” Matthew 10:22

“And they have defeated him (the devil) by the blood of the Lamb and by their testimony. And they did not love their lives so much that they were afraid to die.” Revelation 12:11

    1. Thank you Jeff. It is so hard to process. Marci and I keep finding ourselves breaking out in tears! So tragic. This verse really ministered to me this morning…

“And now, dear brothers and sisters, we want you to know what will happen to the believers who have died so you will not grieve like people who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and was raised to life again, we also believe that when Jesus returns, God will bring back with him the believers who have died.”

      1. Amen, Walt! And that verse reminds me of 1 Peter 1:13, “Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ”…He is our hope in each moment. Thank you, Brother!
