Nowhere to Hide

Last week a Jumbotron at a concert caught two people having an affair. They tried to duck out of view but the video of them went viral.

It reminded me of that verse, “For all that is secret will eventually be brought into the open, and everything that is concealed will be brought to light and made known to all.” Luke 8:17

Paul says one day God “will bring our darkest secrets to light and will reveal our private motives.” 1 Corinthians‬ ‭4‬:‭5‬ ‭

Would you feel ashamed if every dark thought you had this week was put on a big screen for all the world to see? I definitely would.

The wicked think, “God isn’t watching us! He has closed his eyes and won’t even see what we do!” Psalm 10:11

The truth is . . . God IS watching us. That should instill a holy fear that changes the way we think and act.

“By the fear of the Lord one departs from evil” Proverbs 16:6

To fear God is a beautiful thing. I fear Him, not because He is scary, but because I’ve seen how awesome He is. When you truly grasp how great His love is for you, you don’t want to do anything that would displease Him. You begin to hate what He hates and love what He loves. Pleasing Him becomes the priority of your life.

The fear of God doesn’t drive you from Him — It draws you to Him. Because of the cross, we can now approach God with confidence, knowing our sins have been forgiven. The repentant sinner is now innocent in God’s eyes, pardoned by the blood of Christ.

On Judgement Day, I hope my lifetime of sins won’t be broadcast on a Jumbotron for all to see. I would prefer a private screening with just God and I. Whatever the case, I can live today without fear or shame, knowing I’ve been forgiven.

“All who fear the Lord will hate evil.” Proverbs 8:13

I’m sure if the man and woman caught on the concert Jumbotron had feared God, they would have never cheated on their spouses. I hope they turn to God in humility and repentance. If they do, their biggest mistake could become their biggest blessing!

“Understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.” Proverbs‬ ‭2‬:‭5‬

“Blessed is the man who fears the Lord” Psalm 112:1

“Oh, that they would always have hearts like this, that they might fear me and obey all my commands! If they did, they and their descendants would prosper forever.” Deuteronomy‬ ‭5‬:‭29‬ ‭
