Overcoming Racism

Someone posted online that racism and Christianity are interwoven. There is some truth to that, depending on how you define Christianity.

Satan loves to masquerade as a Christ follower. The great abolitionist Frederick Douglass had the wisdom to see through the devil’s disguise. He labeled the so-called Christian slave owners who beat him, “frauds.” He knew if someone didn’t act like Jesus, they were imposters.

Christ said, “You will know a tree by its fruit.” He warned us there would be frauds, or as He put it, “wolves in sheep’s clothing” who would deceive people. We’ve all met them. They are sick and their fruit is rotten.

Good news! Christ is not the cause of racism. He’s the cure for it!

The sin of racism dies at the cross, and love for all people rises from the grave when we let Jesus be Lord and allow the Holy Spirit to control our hearts and minds.

God’s radical grace is the only thing that can heal the pain inflicted by racism. Christ’s blood is the perfect reparation that makes amends for our evil acts against one another.

Racism does not stem from Christianity. It’s root is sin, and sin reigns in every heart, whether you are religious or not.

The only surefire way to overcome racism is to overcome sin.

So that’s what Christ did! His death and resurrection overcame sin. To top it off, He put His Spirit inside His children so they too can overcome sin, including the sin of racism.

Brilliant!

Don’t follow Christianity. It has a faulty past. Follow Christ.

His record is perfect!

“In this new creation life, your nationality makes no difference, nor your ethnicity, education, nor economic status—they matter nothing. For it is Christ that means everything as he lives in every one of us!” Colossians‬ ‭3‬:‭11‬ TPT

“For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation. So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!” For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.” 2 Corinthians‬ ‭5‬:‭19‬-‭21‬ ‭NLT‬‬

I discuss the sin of racism in more detail in my post “A New Race of People.” See archives.
