God’s Dream House

If your home is your castle, my wife and I live in a castle made of metal. Previously a metal barn, we converted it into a barndominium, or “barndo.”

During the building of the barndo the Lord often reminded me of a passage of scripture warning His children to not let possessions take priority over people.

Why are you living in luxurious houses while my house lies in ruins? “This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says: Look at what’s happening to you! Now go up into the hills, bring down timber, and rebuild my house. Then I will take pleasure in it and be honored, says the Lord.” Haggai 1:3-4

God owns a house that needs repair and He wants His kids to help with the work. His house is not made of wood, brick, or metal. It’s made of people.

After Jesus turned the tables on the money changers He said, “Get these things out of here. Stop turning my Father’s house into a marketplace!” Then his disciples remembered this prophecy from the Scriptures: “Passion for God’s house will consume me.” John‬ ‭2‬:‭16‬-‭17‬ ‭‬‬

Christ is consumed with His Father’s house. It is His passion! Better said, we are His passion, for we are the Father’s house, the place where the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit dwell.

“We are the temple of the living God. As God said: “I will live in them.” 2 Corinthians 6:16

“Christ will make His home in your hearts as you trust in Him.” Ephesians 3:17

“Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you.” 1 Corinthians 6:19

The mystery and miracle of Christianity is that God actually takes up residence inside us. He wants to move in and repair the places in us that have been broken because of sin. God’s house is the ultimate fixer upper. When we are finished we will be glorious!

Marci and I are enjoying our barndominium, but realize one day it will perish, along with everything in it. In contrast, God’s dream house, the church, will stand forever. It’s indestructible!

So let’s encourage one another and build each other up. When we do, we are investing time and effort building something that will last for eternity.

Father, I want to help build Your custom dream house. Thank You for letting me be a subcontractor in the greatest house ever built!

Jesus said, “I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it.” Matthew‬ ‭16‬:‭18‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“You yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house” 1 Peter 2:5.
