Happy Graduation Day

With deep sadness and joy, I said goodbye last night to my dear friend and father-in-law Don Mardock. No one I’ve ever known has impacted more lives than Papa Don.

After 94 years, Don peacefully shed his earth suit en route to heaven. Although our hearts miss him, we know we will see him again soon.

Marci and I would appreciate prayers for Glenda, Don’s beloved bride of 73 years. She has done so much for him these last years as his health declined. Don adored Glenda.

I couldn’t go anywhere with Don where he wouldn’t pray for a stranger he just met. Here are two such ladies we met in a hospital elevator. That was Don! Always looking for someone to bless!

These men from Kansas were mentored weekly by Dad for many years. Last year they flew to Colorado to honor and thank him!

“Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his faithful servants.” Psalm 116:15

Papa Don’s final words on earth were to his great grandson Crosby. “Goodbye pal.” Crosby’s final words to him while he lay on his deathbed were, “Goodbye Papa Don. I’ll see you when we get to heaven. I love you so much!”

All that to say it’s been an emotional week!

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful. And now the prize awaits me—the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on the day of his return. And the prize is not just for me but for all who eagerly look forward to his appearing.‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭4‬:‭7‬-‭8‬ ‭

Happy Graduation Day, Dad! Well done, good and faithful servant.

Enter into the joy of your Lord!

We plan to have a Celebration of Life for Don in the Spring. We will keep you posted.

  2. What a mixed bag of emotions when we face the homegoing of those most precious to us. JOY for them, and grief, maybe even a little envy for us. Lifting you all to the Lord, asking him to keep you wrapped tightly in his love, peace, comfort and JOY, especially for Glenda. Love you friend. Lynne

  3. Walt thanks for this perfect send off of such a sincere and faithful friend and mentor. He prayed for our kids by name everyday for years. His 10 pin ministry impacted so many people. So thankful that he was able to be close to your family during his last years—from Concord, CA to Black Forest, CO you provided such a wonderful place for him and Glenda. Their lives inspired so many of us. I will continue to pray for all of you through this season. ❤️

  4. Such a beautiful tribute to such a loving and godly man. I’m so thankful he and Glenda could spend their final years surrounded by their loving multigenerational family. What a blessing. I am praying for Glenda and Marci and the whole family as you all grieve and miss his presence with you and also rejoice knowing he is free and whole in the face to face presence of Jesus. Oh how he must be rejoicing to be with the One whom he loved with all of his heart.

  6. Oh Walt, Marci & family!!! Our hearts go out to you in this very tender transition. My own family understands the convoluted mix of emotions in these sorrowful yet rejoicing times of change. The older WE get (blessed) the more we experience the loss of loved ones (painful, but blessed). My own brother passed on Dec 4th 18 years ago. Just before the holidays. BUT… I always find peace & strength in believing God knows what He’s doing. Don’s legacy will continue to bless others for many years! There is no doubt in the joy of it all, but we understand the void! HUGE hugs to all of you!!!

  7. Walt and Marci…what a wonderful testimony to Don’s life. It’s so painful to say goodbye to someone who has been so important. What a blessing to have had such a Godly man for a dad and father-in-law. Just looking at the photos of him you can see the love of Jesus shining in his eyes. We can only imagine the joy he experienced as he entered the presence of his Lord. Praying for you and the family in the days ahead…we love you, Joan and Bob
