A New Race of People

Many of my closest friends are blessed with more melanin in their skin than me. Though I pale in comparison to them, they love me just the same. We’ve learned to look beyond ethnicity to what’s really important. God’s overwhelming love for us all.

Satan works to divide us by race. Jesus came to destroy the devil’s work. Man’s well meaning, outward attempts to end racial division fall short. The need is for an inside job. Enter the Holy Spirit!

Racism and segregation exist wherever people focus on skin color. “Man looks at the outward appearance. God looks at the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7

God not only looks at the heart, He transforms it. Racism has no place in the heart of a true Christ follower. The Holy Spirit teaches us no one is better than another. In fact, He even enables us to think of others as better than ourselves! Any notion of racial supremacy dies at the cross. Christ’s supremacy is now our glorious obsession.

As educators, politicians and the media sow division by magnifying racial identity, every believer’s job is to magnify our new identity in Christ.

“In this new creation life, your nationality makes no difference, nor your ethnicity, education, nor economic status—they matter nothing. For it is Christ that means everything as he lives in every one of us!” Colossians‬ ‭3‬:‭11‬ TPT

The more secure we become in our identity in Christ, the less we focus on skin color. The only colors that should matter to us are red and white. Red, being the blood of Christ that washes us whiter than snow.

That’s a white privilege we can all enjoy the benefits of.

For Christ himself has brought peace to us. He united Jews and Gentiles into ONE PEOPLE when, in his own body on the cross, he broke down the wall of hostility that separated us. He did this by ending the system of law with its commandments and regulations. He made peace between Jews and Gentiles by creating in himself ONE NEW PEOPLE from the two groups. Together as one body, Christ reconciled both groups to God by means of his death on the cross, and our hostility toward each other was put to death.” ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭2‬:‭14‬-‭16‬ ‭NLT‬‬ (emphasis mine)

“And He has made from ONE BLOOD every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth.” Acts 17:26 ‬‬ (emphasis mine)

Thank You Jesus for Your shed blood that unites us. Help us to live as one new race of people. A chosen race!

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.” 1 Peter‬ ‭2‬:‭9‬-‭10‬ ‭ESV‬‬

  2. I love to dance. I do Zumba, 3 days a week for fun and fitness. After my class yesterday a woman who participated for the first time said, “Are you Latina? “I said no”. She then said, “Wow! You’re not Latina but you dance so well”! I laughed and asked, “Do I have to be Latina to dance this well”? She didn’t know how to respond. The teacher and other gym members laughed and tried to change the spirit in the room. They lightheartedly said they were all Latina but we’re here to have a good time. I encouraged her to come again and have a good time with all of us.

I grew up in an ethnic melting pot and am so grateful. Living outside of America and being the ‘token white girl’ has allowed for even more gratitude. In a world of diversity and an America that often propagates division. I’m grateful that Christ has allowed me to experience, color and diversity, make the world a beautiful tapestry. I’m grateful that we are not the same on the outside. Humbled that we are learning to be the same on the inside.

    John 13:34-35

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another”

Oh ya! Lastly; I forgot to tell her that my skin color is just a birthmark. he,he,he…
