Love, Sweet Love!

Friday, Marci’s parents celebrate 73 years of marriage. We just celebrated 45 years together. The longevity of our marriages didn’t come from reading a marriage manual. The only manual that kept us together was Emmanuel.

Christ’s unending love is the cause of our unending love. “We love because He loved us first.” 1 John 4:19

Today’s divorce rate is sad proof that, “What the world needs now is love, sweet love. It’s the only thing that there’s much too little of.”

Yep! The inability to sustain lifelong marriages is a supply and demand problem. There is a high demand for love, but there’s just too little of it.

The good news is there is no supply shortage of love in Christ. He has enough love to fill every heart. The secret is learning how to access it.

He has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.” Romans‬ ‭5‬:‭5‬

The Holy Spirit is God’s dispenser of an endless supply of love. To be filled with the Spirit is to be filled with supernatural love. Francis Chan says, “Never in history has there been two Spirit-filled people—people walking in the Spirit—who have gotten divorced. It’s impossible!”

I would agree. Divorce occurs when one or both spouses choose to live to please their flesh, rather than please the Holy Spirit. Paul made it clear when he said, “Walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.” Galatians 5:16

So Happy 73rd Anniversary Don and Glenda! We honor you for choosing to stay married, for better, for worse, in sickness and in health. May the Spirit of God continue to enable you to love and cherish each other. . . till death do you part.

Cheers!

    1. Thanks Karen. Yes, her folks have been living with us for ten years. 93 and 92 years old. Dad is starting to really fade. That photo of us on the airplane was taken eight years ago. Don’t think you were working that one!🥰

  3. Hi Walt (and Marci too!)

Lindy Booher here. We really enjoy the “Heartspills” you write and share. And we love the pictures. 73 years of marriage for Marci’s parents is amazing and wonderful. And your four-generation household sounds amazing (and challenging) too. We have such wonderful memories of time spent with you two and your girls. I do hope everyone is doing well there. We’d love to catch up with you and Marci sometime. (FaceTime maybe) I know you two are super busy, but… Please let me know if there might be a time we could re-connect.

Blessings and Love to you and yours always, In Our Lord Jesus!

    1. Hi Lindy. Thank you so much for the encouraging words. We would love to catch up with you and Mark on FaceTime. Let me talk to Marci about a time. Our time is pretty wide open. We spend a lot of time here at the house caring for her folks. Her dad is 93 and in decline. Thankfully, because of Jesus, he will break out singing an old worship song, and has a pretty joyful disposition. It could be so much worse. We are grateful. You are right about the challenges living with four generations brings. It’s harder than we thought. God’s grace is sustaining us and teaching us so many lessons about relying on him and trusting in his promises. Can’t wait to catch up and hear what’s going on with your family! Give Mark a hug from me!!
