Inconceivable!

Our family loves the movie The Princess Bride. It’s a classic love story with one scene that always reminds me of the gospel.

When Buttercup discovers her true love Westley is not dead, he says to her, “I told you I would always come for you. Why didn’t you wait for me?” She replies, “Well . . . you were dead.” To which he responds, “Death cannot stop true love. All it can do is delay it for a while.”

Sound familiar? Christ’s followers wept when He died. The two on the road to Emmaus left Jerusalem downcast thinking their hopes for a Messiah had ended at the cross. They didn’t know death cannot stop true love. All it can do is delay it for a while. Three days after He died . . . True Love rose from the dead!

Jesus is alive! He is risen indeed! His death has set us free from the penalty of sin, and His resurrection life releases us from the power of sin!

Through the Holy Spirit He pours His divine love into our hearts. A love so powerful it transforms selfish people into sacrificial servants. A love that blesses when it is insulted, and rejoices when it suffers. A love so powerful even death cannot stop it.

This is no fairy tale. It’s the greatest love story of all time, with the most epic climax ever written! Jesus, the Prince of Peace will come down from heaven to rescue His beloved bride. The Prince’s bride will meet Him in the air and they will live happily ever after!

Inconceivable!

“No mind has conceived”— the things God has prepared for those who love Him.” 1 Corinthians 2:9

The scene from The Princess Bride I referred to. Watch here.

  1. what a precious correlation Walt. Perfect, for just such as a time as this. Never give up “on the wait.” Our wait time will be redeemed! Thank you for sharing! fred
