Beautiful in His Eyes

Looking back, perhaps our wedding was a bit sappy. Marci walked down the aisle as I played “You are So Beautiful” on the piano. Then she sang to me:

There was love all around
But I never heard it singing
No, I never heard it at all
Till there was you

Sappy? Romantic? You decide. All I know is we were young and crazy in love! Shouldn’t true love make us act a little crazy sometimes, seeing that the One who made us in His image is crazy about us?

That’s right. God is head over heels in love with us! His love letter to us says He rejoices over us, “as a bridegroom rejoices over his bride.” Isaiah 62:5.

He will take great delight in you; in His love he will … rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah‬ ‭3‬:‭17‬.‭

God’s love for us makes Him want to sing. He can’t keep quiet about His bride. He won’t keep His feelings to Himself. He wants us to know how much He loves us, and how He sees us. If we could see ourselves through God’s eyes, insecurity would vanish. Too often, we allow the words of others to determine our identity. We are who God says we are, and He says:

Behold, you are beautiful, my love.” Song of Songs 4:1.

Beloved, we are made in God’s image, beautiful beyond description. True, our beauty has been marred by sin, but by His grace, we are being transformed into something stunning…the pure and holy bride of Christ.

Why does God even care if we are beautiful? Scripture tells us Jesus was not physically attractive in any way. (Isaiah 53:2). His beauty was His holiness. Like Him, our true beauty is not our outward appearance. Its our Christlike character. We “worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.” Psalm 96:9.

Because He is holy, God can not unite Himself to a bride who is unholy. The remedy? Make her holy!

That’s right. We are holy, because of the blood of Jesus. The old me is dead and buried. I am a new creation, “created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.” Ephesians 4:2

We might not always see ourselves as holy or righteous. Satan loves to point out our blemishes. But then I hear my Father say, “Behold, you are beautiful, my love.”

That’s right! God says we are beautiful. And what He says goes!

“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus.” Ephesians‬ ‭2‬:‭10‬ ‭

Thank You Lord, for the beautiful work You are doing in my life. Help me to see myself through Your eyes.
