Simple Church

“Where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” – Jesus.

For years, my wife and I have had people in our home for a weekly dinner—to get to know Jesus and each other better. The man being prayed for told me afterwards, “Everyone was so life-giving.”

Some call it house church. Others call it simple church. We just call it family.

Father God loves family. He always wanted lots of children to love and share His life with. His plan from the beginning was to provide a big house where all His sons and daughters could come and experience the joy of His presence.

“I love the house where you live, O Lord, the place where your glory dwells.” Psalm 26:8.

Where can we find God’s house? “Don’t you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you?” 1 Corinthians 3:16.

Yep, we are God’s house, the place where His glory dwells. Luke described the glory he saw firsthand in God’s house…

“They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity— all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.” Acts 2:46,47.

The First Century believers were a family unlike any the world had ever seen. Made up of rich and poor, Jew and Gentile—no longer divided, instead devoted to one another so much that some sold houses and land so the money could be used to help anyone in need. They tangibly put God’s love on display. It’s no wonder why they grew so rapidly in number.

Friends, we may be entering the most dark and difficult days in human history. The love of many has grown cold, leaving people angry, depressed and alone in the dark. The good news is there is a lighthouse in the midst of the darkness. It’s wherever two or more gather to worship Christ by loving each other as He loved us. That’s where we experience God’s Kingdom. That’s where we find joy. That’s where we see Jesus!

“And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of His return is drawing near.” Hebrews 10:25
