No Regrets

Regret is a painful thing. I’ve done some stupid things in my life that I wish I could go back and change. Maybe you have too. None of us get through this life free of mistakes.

Regret can paralyze us. It steals our joy, and robs us of strength. Regret makes us focus on what’s behind us instead of seeing the beautiful things God is doing right now. Regret keeps our mind on earthly things and we lose sight of heaven and all that God has blessed us with.

Here are my go-to verses when I’m thinking too much about past mistakes and need to capture those thoughts.

“But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:13-14

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” Isaiah 43:18-19

Set your mind and keep focused habitually on the things above [the heavenly things], not on things that are on the earth [which have only temporal value.]” Colossians 3:2 AMP

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” Philippians 4:8

Father, help me to learn from past mistakes, and then move on. Thank You for forgiving my flub ups. Help me to forgive myself. Thank You Lord for causing all things to work together for my good. This is the day You have made. I will rejoice and be glad in it!

Good to hear from you.I gotta tell you what happened 3 weeks ago.I was working in the front yard when a neighbor drove up and said “aren’t you too old to be working like that?”I smiled and walked over to his truck. I didn’t know the guy. We talked. He was 80, 2 back operations, truck driver, etc.I said “In life we make lots of mistakes. We always get over them. There is only one mistake we can’t get over. Not accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior and going to hell. By the way you talk I don’t think you know Jesus. I wouldn’t wait much longerif I were you.”  He said,”yeah,I gotta do that.  We talked a bit more and he drove on. The mistake you can’t get over part came from Brad 5 or 6 years ago. The Lord reminded me. Eddie

  3. Very beautiful read!!! As a man in recovery this particular issue is particularly difficult. The process of healing and moving forward many times is hindered by “wishing to go back” and redo!!! While I struggle with this from time to time…prayers and guidance and forgiveness makes all the difference!!! One of the reasons I created prayers in the park group here in El Paso Texas, it is the legacy that you Walt instilled in me from the meetings you and Marci had in Concord!! Thank you both so much for teaching me how to heal and continue on my journey with CHRIST!

  4. Sooooo true, Walt!!!! It’s easy to trip up on those things that haunt us. The enemy loves to keep us feeling “less than.” God DOES work it all for good and glory. Hallelujah for such a glorious promise!

  5. Ahhhh Colossians 3:2. This is such a great one to always keep in the back of my mind for all of the times that the earthly things try to move in and take me away from my focus and my joy.
