My wife likes when I dress up. So do I.
Mark Twain jokingly said, “Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence in society.”
Funny, but true.
God wants His children to influence society by the way they dress. Some of the clothes He wants us to put on are the garment of praise and the armor of God.
The apostle Paul told believers to “clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the desires of the flesh.” Romans 13:14
He also wrote, “clothe yourselves—with humility.” Colossians 3:12
Humility is so important to God because it describes His Son—and He wants us all to look like Jesus—the most beautiful human who ever lived.
If you think you are already humble enough, beware. I’m learning that God always wants me to be more humble than I planned on being.
Every morning we make a conscious decision what clothes to wear. Likewise, we choose each day to put on Christlike humility or our ugly pride.
Clothes really do make the man (or woman), especially if what we are wearing is Christ.
Put vanity aside. Don’t dress to impress. Instead, let’s dress to bless others by living a humble, Christlike life. Let them see us wearing the garment of praise and the robe of righteousness. Let’s throw off the old ugly rags and clothe ourselves “with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience.” Colossians 3:12
Most importantly, put on love. It’s so attractive on you!
Then go look in the mirror.
You’ve never looked so good!
“I delight greatly in the Lord; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of his righteousness” Isaiah 61:10
“Sing for joy in the LORD, you righteous ones; Praise is becoming to the upright.” Psalm 33:1
“Put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and —put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.” Ephesians 4:22, 24
“His bride has prepared herself. She has been given the finest of pure white linen to wear. For the fine linen represents the good deeds of God’s holy people.” Revelation 19:7-8
