I Married a Demon Slayer

Some people don’t believe demons exist. I know from experience they do. Here’s what happened.

I was 39 when I received my first pacemaker. Up until then I felt pretty invincible. Needing a device implanted in my chest with wires screwed into my heart made me fearful of premature death.

One night as I lay in bed, worrying about my heart, a demon started messing with my mind and I had a massive panic attack. My wife, being the Spirit-filled woman she is, discerned it was a demon tormenting me. She took authority over it in the name of Jesus and cast it out of me, never to return.

I so love my wife!

My friend Joe was a hostage negotiator. I’ll never forget him telling me the story of negotiating with a man wanted for murder. The man had broken into his girlfriend’s house and was holding a gun on their two children. The mother had fled the house, and Joe had the father on the phone, trying to persuade him to surrender.

Joe could tell that demons were tormenting this man. He said it was like the man was standing on the edge of a swimming pool full of man-eating piranhas, waiting for him to jump in. After 48 hours of negotiations, the father suddenly screamed, “WHAT IS HAPPENING TO ME?” then tragically shot his children and himself.

Satan comes to kill, steal and destroy. He uses demons to possess people to carry out his evil desires.

Christians can’t be possessed by demons, but we can be oppressed. I sure was. Thankfully, Jesus Christ has the power to overcome every demonic stronghold.

When Jesus died on the cross and rose from the dead, He “disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.” Colossians‬ ‭2‬:‭15‬ ‭

There is more good news!

“Humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come close to God, and God will come close to you.” James‬ ‭4‬:‭7‬-‭8‬ ‭

We need not fear the powers of darkness. We are more than conquerers through Christ who loves us. All we need to fight our battles is humility, faith in the victory Jesus won, and confidence in the authority we possess because of it.

Ok. It’s nice too if you have a wife who is a demon slayer!

“Look, I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy.” Luke‬ ‭10‬:‭19

“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” Ephesians‬ ‭6‬:‭12‬
